Pros: The Bialetti produces high quality coffee and espresso, and it's also quite affordable.

Cons: The Bialetti has a rather slow brew time when compared to other Moka pots. It also isn't dishwasher friendly.

What is the Bialetti Moka Express Stovetop Espresso Maker?

The Bialetti Moka Express Stovetop Maker is a small aluminum pot that makes coffee by using steam to push water through coffee grounds. It consists of two separate water compartments, a filter compartment, and a gasket.

Most Moka pots are designed to brew one cup of coffee, but Bialetti also sells three cup pots and six cup pots.

In-Depth Review of the Bialetti Moka Express Stovetop Espresso Maker

The Bialetti Moka Express Stovetop Espresso Maker is one of the simplest, most effective systems for making espresso. All you have to do to make espresso with this machine is fill the bottom compartment with boiling water, put ground coffee beans (20-22 grams) into the filter compartment, attach all three compartments to each other, and stick the contraption on your stove. You don't even need to compact your coffee grounds!

When using the Bialetti Moka Express, remember to never turn your stove's heat above medium. A higher temperature will make the coffee brew faster, but it will also ruin the taste.

Made entirely out of aluminum, the Bialetti Moka Express is built to last. It isn't dishwasher friendly, but the lid flips up and the compartments separate for easy cleaning.

Another awesome thing about the Bialetti Moka Express is that it makes better espresso as time goes by. Like a pair of high quality shoes, it's awesome when you first get it, but it only improves with time. Nobody's really sure why this is—some people think it's related to the aluminum—but it's still awesome!

Of course, no brewing system is entirely without flaws. The Bialetti Moka Express takes significantly longer to brew espresso than many other systems, and you have to watch it pretty closely to ensure a good brew. If you like to set it and forget it, this isn't the system for you.

The Bialetti Moka Express Stovetop Maker is an excellent, affordable way to brew high quality espresso from the comfort of your own home—or anywhere else you can access a stove. Its compact size makes it ideal for road trips, and it's much simpler to use than other espresso making systems. It's also much more affordable, with the three cup pot typically sold for around $30-40.

If you want to be able to easily make espresso on the road (or in a small apartment kitchen), the Bialetti Moka Express is one of your best options. Of course, it is made of metal, so if you spend a lot of time on planes you may want to check out the plastic Aeropress brew system. Or, if you've got money to invest and you want a no-effort system, you might want to look into an automatic espresso machine.
